The Unique Design of This Woodworking Multi Head 10-Spindle CNC Router Machine

For such a giant machine whose working size is 3000x3000mm (10’x10’), we should have a proper loading solution for it. The length and width of the machine bed greatly exceed the size of the container door. Based on the bed size, it is impossible to load it as a whole. As a corresponding solution, we adopted a split design for the bed and divided it into two from the middle. In this way, after the bed is disassembled into two parts, it can be loaded into the container very well. For your information, after disassembled, it looks like this:

It can also be seen from the picture that we have designed 9 mounting base surfaces for the bed, and all the surfaces are precision-milled through a high-precision 5-axis metal machining center to minimize the assembly errors of the machine. The technics are vital to machine performance.

Q: Does the Split Design Have A Negative Impact on Machine Accuracy?

A: That depends. If using the most advanced technics from manufacture to assembly, there is no need to worry about this. For instance, all mounting base faces and holes are finish milled by top-level cnc metal machining center. If the machine is built with such technics, you can rest assured of the accuracy and performance of it.

10-Spindle Multi Head CNC Router Specs

• There are ten pieces of water-cooled spindles; they enable us to get 10 pieces of jobs at a time as maximum. When all heads work synchronously, each one can get a working size of 300x3000mm; if 5 heads work only, the working size of each would be 600 ×3000mm; if 2 heads work, then each one’s working size would reach to 1500×3000mm. Therefore, you can choose to use different numbers of machine heads for processing according to the size of the workpiece. Each head has an individual on/off button to control its start and stop.

• The spindle holder is the one with height adjustable function. As we know, when setting the Z-axis zero point for multiple heads, it is not easy to get each router bit at the same height. With the exact height-adjustable spindle holders, we can easily adjust them to a uniform height.

Q: Water Cooling VS Air Cooling, Which One Is Better for Multi Head CNC Router Carving Machine?

A: Water cooling spindle is prior to air cooling one for multiple head cnc router. Here are the reasons: 

(1) Engraving job is time-consuming; water cooling spindle has a smaller temperature rise than air cooling spindle after long time run. From this perspective, water cooling is much better for a long time working.

(2) The water cooling spindle is quieter than air cooling one. Compared with 10 air-cooled spindles, the noise of 10 water-cooled is much smaller.

• The Z-axis has a dual pneumatic counter-balance cylinder to allow very fast and accurate Z-axis positioning. Fast and precise with servo motors, quiet operation. Further, the motors are very smooth running and have very good acceleration and deceleration characters. The Z-axis is driven by a hardened Taiwan rolling antibacklash ball screw.

• The control hardware is WEIHONG Lamdba-3S; software is NcStudio. The electronic cabinet can get the whole computer set accommodated there.

• The X and Y axis motion is via a helical rack and pinion drive, which is hardened for extremely long life and ground for very good accuracy.
